Operations Update

2012
In 2012, we will continue our three-year exploration program with additional 2D seismic testing as well as drilling and testing in areas with the highest potential based upon the exploration data gathered through the gravity and magnetic surveys, geochemistry and 2D seismic. Since we are still in the exploration phase, the exact timing and locations of any potential wells have not yet been determined and are pending Environmental Impact Assessment approval.

2011
In 2011, we will continue our three-year exploration project with phase 2 of the geochemical program to provide more information on potential hydrocarbon presence. This program is scheduled to be completed in August.

We are also conducting a two-dimensional seismic imaging program which is expected to be completed in September. One of the ways we explore for oil or natural gas is by creating maps that show potential reservoirs far beneath the earth's surface with the help of data gathered from 2D seismic imaging. This 2D seismic imaging is accomplished by creating a sound at or near the ground surface and recording the return echoes from the earth with geophones.

This program involves:
  • Large trucks operating on the side of a highway or rural roadway. These trucks usually operate in a group of three to five and may result in brief, controlled traffic delays or disruptions.
  • Potential for a helicopter which will relocate the seismic equipment to the next desired location. This will increase efficiency and decrease road traffic.
  • Crews of approximately five professionals that typically operate in heavily forested areas will conduct the traditional 2D seismic survey using seismic charges.
  • Signage on the sides of highways or rural roadways.
From the first surveying activity to the final cleanup of any particular point on a seismic line, it usually takes from three to four weeks.

2010
During the spring and summer of 2010, SWN Resources Canada completed the airborne magnetic and gravity surveys phase 1 of geochemical sampling, as well as some two-dimensional seismic near Doaktown and Killiams Mills. All activities were successfully completed without incident.

The airborne magnetic and gravity surveys were obtained by flying an aircraft between150 and 300 metres above ground over a tightly spaced grid along parallel lines. Apart from normal aircraft noise, there was no surface impact. The extremely low-impact surface geochemical sampling involved making a small, shallow hole in the ground and inserting a flexible tube into the hole. This tube captured minute amounts of hydrocarbons that naturally diffuse to the surface over very long periods of time. This helps to determine if hydrocarbons have formed in the rock layers beneath the licence areas. Although the presence of hydrocarbons would not ensure the economic viability of this project, it would give further clues toward determining the possible locations of any hydrocarbon accumulation in the subsurface.

"During 2011, I was contracted to do work after seismic operations were complete. The operations crew was very concerned with any footprint they would leave in the province and showed great respect for the environment. They wanted to do the right thing and sought advice about improvements that could be made."
